Mayumi NISHIMURA Profile

Mayumi was born in Aichi Prefecture in Japan on a small island known as Shinojima in 1956. In 1982, she went to the United States to learn Macrobiotics thanks with Michio Kushi, who is considered a world authority on Macrobiotics.

From 1983, She helped establish the Kushi Institute in Becket Massachusetts. After it was opened, she became a cooking teacher and the head cook while instructing how to cook macrobiotic food for cancer patients. Her first job as a private chef was in Hong Kong for two months with her four months daughter in 1984. While she worked for the Kushi Institute, she continued to teach Macrobiotics as a healing diet. In 1994, she began deeply thinking about the significance of the physical and mental balance in her life when she began learning Aikido.

In 1999, after receiving her first degree black belt in Aikido, she realized during a severe winter at Macrobiotic Community in Alaska that all that happened around her was her own creation. She then returned to Massachusetts from Alaska and started her life over from scratch.

In 2001, she took on the job for changing the diet of Madonnafs son to a Macrobiotic diet.
This triggered her to join the World Tour of Madonna and the filming in Europe by Guy Richie (who is Madonnafs husband). Since then, shefs advocated the Macrobiotic diet and aspiring for a more healthy life as the private chef for Madonna and her family. She worked in London, Los Angeles and New York.

In 2004 and 2006, while she accompanied Madonna on her World Tour, she published two books,
gA Small Kitchen in a Big Universeh by Kanaria Press and gMayumifs Best Recipes for Beautiful Skinh by Shufu and Seikatsu Press. Her third book, gHappy Petit Macroh, will be published by Kodan Press in April, 2008. She has two children.
